Seminar about mental health of infants with disabilities and of their families. £45/delegate. It can come to your region

 This 3-hour seminar, facilitated by Peter Limbrick, is part of a new international initiative focusing on the mental health or psychological/emotional wellbeing of babies and preschool infants who have:

-        a multifaceted  condition (= multiple/complex disabilities)

-        a short/uncertain life expectancy

-        serious illness

-        or some combination of these

 

This initiative involves key people in UK, Canada, Australia, S. Africa, Italy and New Zealand. The immediate objectives include:

1.      Producing a basic International Guide for families and professionals that will, amongst other things, encourage awareness and discussion of emotional wellbeing and quality of life

2.      Helping to build bridges between professionals in the ‘child disability world’ and professionals in the ‘child mental health world’

The Seminar will discuss topics from the new book Early Childhood Intervention without Tears: Improved support for infants with disabilities and their families. Peter has written this book as an item of background reading for the new International Guide. Each Seminar delegate will receive a copy when they book their place.

Key topics are:

-        Addressing challenges to infant-parent attachment

-        Reducing stress and exhaustion for the infant

-        Reducing stress and exhaustion for family members

-        Helping family make the best use of their time

-        Helping practitioners make the best use of their energy and time

-        Promoting quality of life for the infant

-        Promoting quality of life for the family

-        Helping the family, when they are ready, move towards a new normal family life.

 

The Seminar discussions will be relevant to family members, child development practitioners, child mental health practitioners, service managers, service directors and academics.
