An appeal to UK government for a recovery plan for disabled children and their families

Press release from The Disabled Children’s Partnership - a coalition of over 80 charities campaigning for disabled children, young people and their families:-

‘Our research has exposed the disproportionate negative impact of the pandemic on those we support. Half of parents are concerned that their child’s condition may have gotten worse because of delays to vital health appointments. At the same time, both parents and children are continuing to experience poor emotional wellbeing. On average six out of ten parents are observing symptoms associated with anxiety, and over 60% of disabled children are severely socially isolated.

‘This has to change. Join us in calling on the Department for Education to implement a COVID-19 recovery plan for disabled children and their families. We need a holistic COVID-19 recovery plan that provides support for burnt out families suffering from poor mental health, and makes up for the absence of therapies which has impacted on their physical development and opportunities to develop vital life skills.’
